WINTER BREAK February 20-24, 2012. Stay Warm and Be Healthy. Pittsford Community Collaboration Task Force Announced Ad Hoc volunteer group to identify collaborative opportunities, make recommendations The Pittsford Community Collaboration Task Force has been appointed and is currently working to identify additional or new opportunities for collaborative efforts between the Town, Village, and Pittsford Central School District. Preliminary organizational meetings were held in November and December of last year; work is now underway to identify and quantify current collaborative efforts and to research methods of collaboration used by other communities. The full task force meets twice a month but will also be breaking into various sub-committees to explore in more depth specific areas of potential for collaboration. The members of the Pittsford Community Collaboration Task Force include: The task force’s nine members were selected from a community-wide pool of applicants. Two representatives each from the Town, Village, and School District also sit on the committee as liaisons. They include: Town liaisons: Sandy Zutes, Deputy Supervisor; Paul Schenkel, Commissioner of Public Works Village liaisons: Trip Pierson, Village Trustee; Lorie Boehlert, Village Trustee School District liaisons: Michael Pero, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources; Jeff Beardsley, Director of Operations The Pittsford Community Collaboration Task Force was established by the Pittsford Collaborative Leadership Team, a group comprised of Pittsford town, village and school district officials with a shared mission to determine areas in which the three entities can share resources and collaborate for “the betterment of all who live, work, play and learn in the Pittsford community” while continuing to achieve the mission and goals of each entity.
02/20/12--Challenger Baseball Spring 2012: The Challenger Division of Pittsford Little League is for children with mental and/or physical challenges. Players are assigned “buddies” to assist them in playing the game. This program is FREE with an optional donation. To register, log on to www.pittsfordlittleleague.org and click “Registration” on the top toolbar. Click on “Register Online” and then “Challenger”. Registrations will be accepted on an ongoing basis, but please register by March for planning purposes. Registration Forms here. They are also located on the High School Football website Pittsfordfootball.com and the Youth Football Website at PittsfordYouthFootball.org CLICK HERE to nominate someone for the Inclusive Teacher of the Year Award. Parents, students and employees can submit a nomination for a school employee. Nominees and the winner are honored in many ways. Your feedback is important information to the district and can be submitted anonymously. The deadline is March 5th. 2/29/12-- PTSA Meeting, 7 pm at MHS:Our Guest Speaker is Dr. Mary Tantillo, Director of the Western New York Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders. Dr. Tantillo will update us on what students say helps them to feel good or bad about their bodies, sharing information obtained from CRMS and BRMS students a few years ago. She will focus on body image, as it is the best predictor of eating disorders, as well as an indicator of risk factors for depression, suicide and substance abuse. 3/03/12--ROTARY CLUB AND YOUTH GROUPS SPONSOR BASKETBALL FREE THROW CONTEST: Pittsford Central School District students in grades 5 – 12, and their parents, are invited to have fun and get active on Saturday, March 3 by participating in the Pittsford Rotary Club’s 7th annual Charity Stripe Classic basketball free throw contest. The contest will be held at the Sutherland High School gymnasium (55 Sutherland St. in Pittsford) and is co-sponsored by Pittsford Rotary Interact youth clubs from Pittsford Mendon and Pittsford Sutherland high schools, and the Pittsford Alliance for Substance Free Youth. Registration begins at 9:30AM and the competition starts at 10AM. Awards will be presented in four grade divisions each for boys and for girls: 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, and 11/12. Parents will also be able to shoot and have their scores combined with their child’s for awards. There will be an award to the participant with the most consecutive successful shots as well. To top it all off, the Corner Bakery Café will provide frozen yogurt parfaits! Be sure to come out for this fun family activity. Pittsford Youth Services-Presents A Parent Workshop: Surviving Your Adolescents, By Thomas W. Phelan, Ph.D. (author of 123 Magic) and Instructed by Loraine Young, LMSW. Surviving Your Adolescents will address how to manage and let go of your 13-18 year olds. This parenting workshop will cover the following topics: Space will be limited to 14 individuals on a first-come-first-serve basis. ForParents or guardians of children ages 13-18, to be held at the Pittsford Rec. (Spiegel Center) – 35 Lincoln Ave. – Room 205 on Wednesday evenings 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Five Sessions will be held February 29, March 7, March 14, March 28, April 4, 2012 Fee: (due with registration): $80 individual $100 couple. THANK YOU to the families who carved out time on a Saturday afternoon, during a very busy time of the year.
THANK YOU to the school librarians who promoted the event, especially in the elementary schools. Also to school principals, especially Scott Reinhart at Calkins Road who went above and beyond to support the book fair.
THANK YOU so much to everyone who stopped and shopped. We couldn’t have done it without you. Your generosity has allowed the 3-5th graders at all our elementary school s enjoy a visit from children’s author Mary Amato.

Saturday, March 10. St. Patrick's Day Craft Table; in the Fletcher Steele Room, 11-4pm. Wear something green this St. Patrick's Day. Stop by and make a lucky pin, beaded bracelet, or keychain. No registration required.
Thursday, March 29. Gearing Up for a Successful College Search; in the Fisher Meeting Room, 7-8:30pm. An interactive session with insider tips and expert advice. You'll hear from a seasoned college admission/college counseling professional who has reviewed over 10,000 college applications for 4 institutions. The information shared will help students make informed decisions throughout high school and set the stage for a less stressful college search experience. Geared towards students in grades 9-11. Call 249-5481 to register.
LOST ITEMS: The Transportation department has a growing collection of sweaters, coats, lunchboxes and shoes, all of which have been left on buses this current year. Eyeglasses, cell phones and calculators from both this current year and the end of last year can still be claimed. Items not claimed by January 31st will be donated to charity. We are located at 100 Mendon Center Rd and are here from 8:30am – 4:00pm except when school is closed.”

Congratulations! Allen Creek Elementary School named a “New York State School of Character”
The Academy for Character Education named Allen Creek Elementary School one of three New York State Schools of Character. Sponsored by The Academy for Character Education at The Sage Colleges and the Character Education Partnership, the New York State Schools of Character (NYSSOC) awards program recognizes schools that demonstrate outstanding school climate and academic performance. The NYSSOC winners were chosen by a panel of independent reviewers who have been involved in character education and student development for many years. New York State School of Character winners have advanced to the national level competition as New York’s nominees for the National School of Character awards program.
Allen Creek Elementary School will be recognized at The Academy for Character Education’s Champions of Character Award Banquet at The Sage Colleges in April.
