Sports, Leisure and Recreational Opportunities
The Pittsford PTSA provides the following list of sports, leisure and recreational opportunities for information only. No endorsements are implied. Information is accepted from community groups, schools and local non-for-profits. The Pittsford PTSA is unable to list programs from "for profit" organizations or individuals. Please see our policy for more details. TREASURE HUNT--SUNDAY, 10/5 Come join the hunt for treasure! The Town of Pittsford’s Recreation Department is offering “Treasure Hunt” – a program for children (ages 6 – 12) who are accompanied by an adult – on Sunday, 10/5 from 1 to 4PM at Isaac Gordon Park, 3450 Clover Street. Convenient parking is located at Thornell Farm Park (adjacent to Pittsford Mendon High School) with free shuttle service to program site. The bus will pick up and drop off participants every 20 minutes beginning at 1PM. Program fee: $12 includes refreshments. Program code: 221-402. Space is limited. Register at the Spiegel Community Center, 35 Lincoln Avenue, by mail, or online at www.townofpittsford.org.
PITTSFORD HOME RUN DERBY Calling all sluggers! (ages 9-18) Come hit at the Pittsford Home Run Derby on Sunday, October 12 at Bob Ford Field! Round 1 starts at 9 am and the finals are at 4:30 pm. Tickets cost just $10 and can be purchased at Ford Field during Little League games this Saturday, October 4 between 9am and 4 pm. For more information visit www.PittsfordLittleLeague.org
PITTSFORD LIBRARY BOOK SALE--10/24-26 Friends of the Pittsford Library are sponsoring a Fall Book Sale at the Pittsford library, 24 State St., Pittsford, NY on October 24 to October 26, 2008. The sale starts with a Friend’s night from 5 PM-8: 30 PM on October 24. (You can join at the door.) The sale continues 10am-5pm on Saturday October 25. Everything is half price on Sunday October 26 from 10am to 4pm. Fill a bag for $3 from 5pm to 6pm on October 26. Thousands of books, CDs, audio tapes and DVD’s are available. Admission is free on Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds benefit the Pittsford Library.

MISCONCEPTION, MISREPRESENTATION AND RIDICULE: LAMPOONING AND CARTOONING IN THE 1850s Saturday, October 4 2:00 - 3:00 pm, Pittsford Community Library Dave Malone, from the Women's Rights National Historical Park, returns with this intriguing glimpse into a period of great social change in the United States. On the national agenda in the 1850s were issues such as slavery, temperance and immigration. Just as today, these issues were reflected in the cartoons and illustrations published in newspapers and journals. Excellent for high school students interested in political science. Your scores will be available for pickup at the library approximately 2 weeks after the test date. These scores will not be sent to schools or the College Board.
